Scratch and Peck Feeds Naturally Free Organic Layer Feed 16% Protein is a Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified product. While all of our products are soy-free, this product is both soy-free and corn-free.

Scratch and Peck Feeds are a special blend of cracked organic grains, organic flax meal, and select vitamins and minerals sourced from North American farms. Similar to Naturally Free Organic Starter and Grower, our Naturally Free Organic Layer Feed 16% contains an optimum level of protein for Stage Three feeding.

This Stage Three feed is appropriate for laying chickens and ducks at 20 weeks of age or when laying begins. The higher levels of calcium found in this blend help to produce stronger eggshells.

A nutritionally complete premium diet combined with fresh water, a clean coop and nesting environment, and plenty of fresh air, sunshine, and room to roam is among the most important considerations for your flock’s longterm wellbeing.

This feed is suitable for ducks, geese, and all waterfowl.

Practicing Flock Management Best Practices will give your flock the best chance for a long and healthy, happy life. During Stage Three we recommend Scratch and Peck Feeds Cluckin’ Good Layer Grit paired with Cluckin’ Good Oyster Shell and Cluckin’ Good Organic Herbs.

Your hens should be approaching their full grown size at approximately 20 weeks of age. Begin introducing Naturally Free Organic Layer 16% gradually to allow for a slow adjustment to the new feed formula. This is more important when switching from a different type of feed such as crumbles or pellets as your chickens may not immediately know how to consume a mash style feed.

Refill feeders only after all feed has been consumed (til they “clean up their plates”). Trough feeders provide the best access to our whole grain feeds. Be sure to offer fresh water, plenty of Cluckin’ Good Layer Grit and you can begin to supplement oyster shell at this age.

Feel free to continue offering Organic 3-Grain Scratch or Organic Scratch n’ Corn by tossing around their run to promote foraging (scratching and pecking) or use as a training tool!

You can also boost the nutrients by fermenting your flock’s feed. Browse our Helpful Guides for more resources on how to use our feeds to optimize your flock’s health.
